Todd Hoffman and Crew head to South America

During the season finale of Gold Rush, the producers and Todd Hoffman revealed that the crew had been prospecting for gold 'down south' and that they might not be returning to the Klondike for season 4. I really don't think this is the case. Unless Todd rented all the equipment, I can't imagine him selling it at a complete loss and giving up mining Klodike Gold. He definitely is not getting big dollars from the show, so the chance of the discovery channel funding his expeditions or his adventures is unrealistic.

Christo Doyle, the producer of Gold Rush revealed that Hoffman is going to look in South America for the next big gold rush. The season will be captured in an off-season, 6 episode series coming this summer called Gold Rush - The Off-Season. Todd and his crew prospect in three different countries looking for a spot that holds the most gold!

I can't wait. One of the best parts about the show is watching Todd sabotage himself, only to pull through at the last second.

Yeah I can't see that happening anytime soon. But as the show in Alaska becomes even more popular, who knows he might find some sponsors willing to pay for a Southern season.

I would just search youtube and see what you can find, I am sure someone will post it, hopefully the discovery channel will.

Well some optimistic news is that Todd Hoffman's Twitter page just said lots of equipment manufacturers are contacting him. That could mean sponsorships or even free leasing of the equipment needed for a trip to South America, or even Africa.

They seem to have such a high profile now that they could film anywhere they want and it will be a guaranteed hit. I would watch a season no matter where it was filmed. Anyone else feel the same?

The special shows might be to test viewers interest in such a venture for future shows. I think we all know that it would be a successful show.

According to Doyle the Hoffmans will be hunting in other areas during the 'off season'

“Todd is taking a trip that will be captured in an off-season run of episodes we’re calling Gold Rush: The Off-Season. There will be six episodes there in the summer, and it will be Todd and crew prospecting in three different countries looking for a spot that he thinks holds more gold.”

    So nothing new so far.

“Todd has had a rough go of it this year,” claims Doyle. “As a result, he has decided that he is going to look at South America.” That’s right, the show that was once called Gold Rush Alaska is about to get a whole lot more international. “Todd is taking a trip that will be captured in an off-season run of episodes we’re calling Gold Rush: The Off-Season,” explains Doyle. “There will be six episodes there in the summer, and it will be Todd and crew prospecting in three different countries looking for a spot that he thinks holds more gold.”

What does that mean for Dave Turin and the rest of the Hoffman crew? Well, it’s unclear at this point, though, as we saw, Dave will be joining Todd on his trip below the equator. “Todd feels like he can have more gold per yard in South America and he’s willing to take that risk… and we don’t really know what’s going to happen with the Klondike,” confesses Doyle. “We don’t know if Dave’s going to go back to the Klondike or not, but [Todd] wants to continue hunting better gold so he can finally strike it rich and give all these guys the pay day that he thinks they deserve.”
